Week seven
SINGING LESSON: This lesson we were accompanied by the piano during our rehearsals of all performances in the showcase except two. We did a quick warm up that was more independent. I did a quick pulse raiser which consisted of star jumps and running on the spot to get my blood flowing. I then followed that by stretching my arms up to the ceiling then down to my toes. We started by rehearsing nothing like a dame, us as a class though the rehearsal went well but the pianist was struggling to hear us. He said that this was because the majority of this class is female and it was out of our range so we struggled to project because of this. Ralph suggested singing all our line an active higher but this was also a struggle for us because it was too high. But Ralph could hear us and claimed we were louder so we kept practising with this last minute change, which I suppose helped us with flexibility and being able to deal with sudden changes.
After singing seasons of love a couple of times we moved on to school song and did a run through. After our run through we asked Ralph for feedback. He said that our projection was really good and consistent throughout and that our choreography and how we performed it was strong. Our target was to make sure that we didn't lose our strong performance during the block section. We did a couple consecutive rehearsals just to continue practising so it is locked in our memory so it is less likely for mistakes in the actual performance.
LAST REHEARSAL!
In this rehearsal we spent out time practising every piece in the showcase and making any changes that are needed. This was over 4 hours of rehearsal time. To warm up we sang through nothing like a dame also to practice the key change, and we sang it close to perfectly, once we did a vocal warm up we did physical warm up independently. Mine consisted of jumps in both 1st, parallel and second 8 times each then 20 star jumps before stretching reaching for the ceiling and down to my feet. the next piece that was rehearsed was wilkomen which i wasn't in so i spent my time practising the school song choreography in the corridor. the next piece was west side story and Nadine talked us through the choreography quickly but when it came to practising it i completely forgot and messed up a couple of times. Later on we practised this in more detail and we learned the choreography again and we got to the fight scene. I was fighting Tom which was quite scary for me but i choreographed a safe fight scene where i wouldn't get hurt. Both groups did a run through of school song before a break and Nadine told us that it definitely was the strongest performance which is good as we were getting assessed on it. But i still struggled with my characterisation and it was because i didn't know what to do in the beginning so i think i set me up to not be intimidating for the rest of the performance. So i stayed behind to ask Nadine what to do, She told me i was to happy all the time and often smiled, so she suggested glaring at the little kids. After the break i did this which helped me keep that character all the way through and Daisy from the other group noticed it and told me i did well. I think it helped that i was i the costume as well so it was easier for me to portray that bully character.
